The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Sudan reached $1.4 billion during 2023, compared to $1.5 billion during 2022, a decrease of 6.4%.
Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) revealed, Thursday, that the value of Egyptian exports to Sudan has increased to record $979.9 million during the year 2023, compared to $954.3 million, year-over-year, an increase of 2.7%.
While the value of Egyptian imports from Sudan amounted to $386.9 million during 2023, compared to $505.4 million during 2022, a decrease of 23.4%.
Regarding the most important commodity groups that Egypt exported to Sudan during the year 2023 included mill products (barley, starch, and grains) worth $260 million, and sugar products amounted to $79 million.
It added that Egypt's exports of "soap" to Sudan amounted to $49 million, while exports of "plastics and their products" amounted to $47 million, and exports of "clothes" amounted to $45 million.
Regarding the most important commodity groups that Egypt imported from Sudan during the year 2023, the agency indicated that “live stock” worth $164 million, and “cotton” worth $115 million.
Egypt’s imports of “oilseeds and fruits” amounted to $93 million, while imports of “meat” amounted to $10 million.
The agency stated that the value of remittances from Egyptians working in Sudan amounted to $13.3 million during the fiscal year 2021/22, compared to $12.9 million during the fiscal year 2020/2021, an increase of 2.7%, while the value of remittances from Sudanese working in Egypt amounted to $1.6 million during the FY2021/22 compared to $2.1 million during the FY2020/21, a decrease of 22.5%.
The value of Sudanese investments in Egypt recorded $5.8 million during 2022/23, compared to $4 million during 2021/22, an increase of 45%.
The population of Egypt recorded 106.1 million people in February 2024, while the population of Sudan recorded 49 million people for the same period.
