Embassy of Canada to Egypt announced, Friday, the beginning of Canadian Islamic History Month, a month to recognize the significant role that Muslim communities play in Canadian society, highlighting their extraordinary contributions.
"Today marks the beginning of Canadian Islamic History Month. Proclaimed by Parliament in 2007, this month recognizes the significant role that Muslim communities play in Canadian society and highlights their extraordinary contributions," Canadian Heritage said in a statement.
During this month, Canadians have an opportunity to learn more about the history of Islam in Canada and recognize the many achievements of Muslim Canadians in the arts, sports, academics, sciences, literature and their communities.
It is also the perfect time to acknowledge the ongoing challenges and barriers that Muslim Canadians have to go through.
This year has been extremely difficult for Muslim communities across Canada, as we witnessed the horrific results of racism and hate.
"Together, we must combat all forms of discrimination, Islamophobia and hate-fueled violence directed at Muslim communities across the country," the statement read.
On his part, Louis Dumas, Ambassador of Canada to Egypt, affirmed that more than million Muslims in Canada have a vital and vibrant part of the society.
