Mr. Ayman Ashry, Chairman of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, received the Cypriot Ambassador to Cairo, Ms. Polly Ioannou, accompanied by the Commercial Counselor of the Cypriot Embassy, Mr. George Foukas, to explore new avenues for enhancing economic relations between Egypt and Cyprus. The meeting was attended by Mr. Sherif Yehia, Vice Chairman of the Chamber; Dr. Ahmed Sherine, Head of the Investment Committee at the Chamber; and Mr. Galal El-Ghor, Vice Chairman of the Investment Committee.

The discussions focused on ways to increase the volume of trade and investment exchanges between the two countries, aligning with the remarkable progress in their bilateral political relations. Emphasis was placed on the importance of cooperation between the Cairo Chamber of Commerce and Cypriot chambers of commerce to strengthen partnerships and explore available investment opportunities in both markets.

Both parties stressed the necessity of exchanging visits between Egyptian and Cypriot business communities to foster economic collaboration. They agreed to organize a visit for an Egyptian delegation to Cyprus soon, in coordination with the Cypriot Embassy and chambers of commerce, to discuss signing a joint cooperation protocol to enhance economic relations between the two countries.

Mr. Ayman Ashry highlighted the unprecedented facilitations provided by Egypt to support investment and trade, commending the role of the Egyptian political leadership, headed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in creating an encouraging investment climate. He noted that the Chamber, which comprises over 630,000 traders, manufacturers, and investors, is well-positioned to offer support to Cypriot partners. He also pointed to the existing investments of El-Ashry Group in Cyprus, emphasizing the potential for expanding this collaboration.

For her part, Ambassador Polly Ioannou praised Egypt’s notable economic progress in recent years, affirming that the strong political relations between the two countries should be more effectively reflected in their economic ties. She called for accelerating bilateral meetings between business communities to enhance economic partnerships, noting that Cyprus offers diverse investment opportunities that could enrich joint cooperation.

Both sides agreed that Egypt’s strategic location serves as a gateway to other markets, which strengthens the prospects for bilateral cooperation and paves the way for deeper economic partnerships in the near future.
