China’s ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is in advanced discussions to sell its gaming subsidiary Shanghai Moonton Technology to Saudi Arabia’s Savvy Games Group in a deal valued between $6 billion and $7 billion, according to sources cited by Reuters.
One source said the agreement could be finalized during the current quarter of 2026, while another indicated that both parties have reached a preliminary understanding on the broad terms of the transaction. The sources requested anonymity as they were not authorized to speak publicly.
Shanghai Moonton Technology is best known for developing the hit mobile title Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, which commands a large global user base and has become one of the most popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games on smartphones.
The potential divestment comes amid intensifying deal activity across the global video game industry, as companies race to expand their footprint in live-streaming services and capture growing numbers of online players.
Separately, Bloomberg reported that ByteDance revived talks to sell Moonton to the Saudi firm in late 2025, four years after acquiring the studio. Bloomberg estimated Moonton’s market value at around $4 billion at the time.
Savvy has been at the forefront of Saudi Arabia’s push to establish itself as a global gaming hub under its broader economic diversification strategy.
If completed, the transaction would mark one of the largest gaming-sector deals of 2026 and further cement the Gulf state’s expanding footprint in the global interactive entertainment industry.
