Sudan’s Sovereign Council Chairman, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said that the Sudanese government is ready to work closely with the United Nations and its agencies to support humanitarian, development, and social efforts across the country.
His remarks came during a meeting in Khartoum with Ramadan Lamamra, the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, in the presence of Foreign Minister Ambassador Mohieddin Salem.
Burhan welcomed Lamamra and expressed appreciation for the UN Secretary-General’s continued attention to Sudan’s peace efforts. He said the government seeks to achieve peace throughout the country in a way that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people, and stressed Sudan’s commitment to continued cooperation with the UN to advance security and stability in Sudan and the wider region.
For his part, Lamamra said he arrived in Sudan to follow up on political, security, and humanitarian developments at the request of the UN Secretary-General, who remains closely monitoring the situation.
He acknowledged the complexity of the circumstances facing Sudan but noted that opportunities still exist for a Sudanese-led dialogue capable of ending the bloodshed and restoring stability. He confirmed that the United Nations is prepared to provide all necessary support to help achieve this goal.
