Egypt U-23 manager Shawky Gharib has said that he is willing to call up Mohamed Salah for the Olympic team after the next international break.

The team qualified for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo last year after their U-23 AFCON 2019 victory.

However, the Olympics were postponed to next year because of the coronavirus outbreak back in March.

Following their qualification, Egypt U-23 boss Shawky Gharib has expressed his desire to call up Liverpool’s Salah on several occasions.

On Friday, Gharib reiterated his intention to include the winger in his plans for the Olympics, but says he can only do so if Liverpool allow Salah to leave.

“The problem is that the English Premier League will start just three days after the final game of the Olympics,” Gharib explained to MBC Masr.

“We are facing a difficulty in choosing our 18-man squad, including three players who are over the age of 23, which means that only 15 players will be selected from the main team,” he added.

Salah was supposed to be on international duty for Egypt recently but the forward was ruled out of their AFCON qualifiers against Togo after testing positive for COVID-19 three times.
