The European Union's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, said on Tuesday that the situation in Lebanon is getting worse by the day, stressing the need to reach a ceasefire.
Borrell explained to the European Parliament that it is very important to reach a ceasefire.
According to Sky News, the European official added that about 20 percent of the Lebanese have been forced to flee, according to the figures.
Borrell considered that the Lebanese army cannot be a parallel force to Hezbollah or guarantee the country's territorial integrity.
Israeli air strikes have displaced 1.2 million people in Lebanon.
About 2,000 Lebanese have been killed since Hezbollah began firing on Israel a year ago in solidarity with Hamas, most of them in the past few weeks.
The Israeli army described its ground operation in Lebanon as limited and targeted, but its scope has increased significantly since last week.
