US President Joe Biden held a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Tuesday, on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Lithuania.

Biden thanked Erdogan for his “courage” in supporting Sweden’s entry to NATO.

He also celebrated the conclusion of his efforts to solve the dispute between Erdogan and Sweden over NATO membership.

Biden told Erdogan: “I want to thank you for your diplomacy and your courage to take that on. And I want to thank you for your leadership."

Previously, Erdogan opposed that bid of Sweden to join NATO due to the European country's stands of the Kurds.

In the same context, Erdogan demanded at the last minute that approval for Sweden in NATO would depend on Turkey being able to renew its talks with the European Union to join the bloc.

Another demand from Turkey is purchasing modern US F-16 fighter jets.
