Syrian actor Bassel Khaiat is set to star alongside Lebanese actresses Pamela El Kik and Zeina Makki in the TV adaptation of the 2009 Turkish crime thriller TV series "Ezel."
The Turkish drama itself is an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' 1844 novel "The Count of Monte Cristo".
It was initially broadcast on Show TV in the fall of 2009 and was transferred to ATV the following year. The drama has gained a considerably large fan base in Turkey since.
"Ezel" stars Kenan İmirzalıoğlu, Cansu Dere and Yiğit Özşener in lead. The cast also features Kenan İmirzalıoğlu, İsmail Filiz, Barış Falay, Tuncel Kurtiz, Sarp Akkaya, Bade İşçil, Sedef Avcı, Haluk Bilginer, Salih Kalyon, İpek Bilgin, Beyazıt Gülercan, and more. Uluç Bayraktar directed the series from a script by Kerem Deren and Pınar Bulut.
While it is set in modern-day Istanbul, filming also took place in North Cyprus, Croatia, England, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Per an official logline, the drama follows “Omer is imprisoned after his friend's betrayal and false accusations of robbery and murder. He manages to escape prison, get a face transplant and assume the new identity of Ezel to get his revenge."
