A Young Egyptian entrepreneur Alaa Kamal has come up with an online barter system called “Bekia” aimed at reducing waste in Egypt while helping people save money, TRT reported.
He explained that ‘Bekia’ is a website where one can easily exchange recyclable waste for foodstuffs. The waste could be used to get cooking oil, books, newspapers, mobile phones, laptops, and metals.
The initiative came as several recycling efforts are underway to reduce the country's waste woes.
Bekia was launched last year and operates in 16 districts around the city with hopes for the company to grow.
