Austria's energy regulatory authority has announced a significant increase in electricity and gas supply costs, effective January 1, 2025.

The changes are expected to impact households nationwide as energy costs climb amid rising network maintenance and expansion expenses.

For electricity, Austrian households will see an average price hike of 23.1%, while gas prices are set to rise by 16.6%. Tax increases are also on the horizon, further driving up annual energy costs for consumers.

The steepest electricity network fee increases are anticipated in Vienna, with prices surging by over 30%, followed by Styria at 29% and Upper Austria at 25.6%.

The regulatory authority explained that reduced energy consumption from the grid, coupled with higher maintenance and expansion costs, is the primary driver behind the sharp rise in network fees.
