Australia is actively assisting hundreds of its citizens and permanent residents in leaving Lebanon as tensions in the region continue to rise.
The Australian government has arranged for multiple flights to help those seeking to depart the country, which has seen increasing instability.
The Australian government has secured 580 seats on flights scheduled for Thursday and Saturday.
These flights are available to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and their families. Additional flights were organized earlier in the week to meet the growing demand for evacuation.
About 1,700 Australians and their families have informed the government of their intention to leave Lebanon.
The Australian government is urging all remaining nationals to take advantage of the available options to leave while conditions allow. Officials have emphasized that now is the time to depart, as the situation in Lebanon is becoming increasingly precarious.
Lebanon is home to a sizable Australian-Lebanese community, with around 15,000 Australians currently residing in the country.
The evacuation process depends on the continued operation of Beirut’s airport, a critical factor in maintaining the flow of people out of the region.
