In a tragic incident today, at least six individuals lost their lives in a targeted explosion that struck a passenger bus on the outskirts of the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The official Somali news agency quoted Mohammed Ibrahim, the governor of the Lower Shabelle region, as stating that the attack occurred on a road between the areas of Guriyole and Marka. This devastating event resulted in the loss of six lives and left another 12 individuals injured.

On the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Ibrahim declared the explosion to be a result of a terrorist attack. This dreadful incident underscores the ongoing challenges posed by extremist groups in the region.

Earlier, the Somali army announced a major victory against Al-Shabaab, a group linked to Al-Qaeda, eliminating 25 members in a joint military operation with international partners in the central province of Hiiraan. This operation reflects the determination of the Somali forces to counter the threat posed by extremist organizations and maintain stability in the country.

For over a decade, the Somali armed forces have been engaged in a relentless battle against Al-Shabaab, an extremist organization responsible for numerous attacks that have claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians and security personnel.
