El Ahly captain Hossam Ashour has retracted his decision to retire following the ongoing 2019/2020 season, saying that he received two offers abroad from Saudi Arabia and Portugal.

Ashour’s contract with El Ahly was set to run out at the end of the season with the club announcing that they will not be renewing his contract.

The club had promised Ashour that a retirement match, celebrating his career will be held for the midfielder, while offering him a deal with El Ahly’s TV channel as a pundit and the chance to travel abroad to undergo a trial with a European club to gain experience.

However, Ashour recently released a video on his Instagram account where he criticized the El Ahly board for not responding to the offer made by El Ahly’s former honorary president and current Saudi Entertainment minister Turki Al Sheikh to organise the midfielder’s testimonial game ahead of his retirement.

Following this, the Red Devils released a new statement on Tuesday announcing they are taking back their proposal to the team captain, wishing him luck for the rest of his career. Accordingly, the 34-year-old midfielder stated that he isn’t retiring anymore.

“I have decided to continue playing football. I have two offers, one from Saudi Arabia and one from Portugal,” Ashour said on Instagram.
