Arsenal have secured one of the most significant transfers of the summer window by completing the signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace for £67.5 million, beating rivals Tottenham to his signature.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who came through Arsenal’s academy before being released at the age of 13, now returns to the Emirates to fulfil his childhood dream of wearing the Gunners’ shirt.

Tottenham had been leading the race and were close to convincing Eze to join Thomas Frank’s project.

However, an untimely injury to Kai Havertz forced Arsenal to reignite their pursuit, matching Spurs’ offer and ultimately hijacking the deal in a major statement of intent against their North London rivals.

Eze enjoyed a standout season in 2024/25, scoring 14 goals across competitions, including the decisive strike in Crystal Palace’s FA Cup final win over Manchester City. His creativity and ability to deliver in big moments are expected to give Mikel Arteta a significant boost in attacking midfield.

Still, questions remain over how Eze will adapt at Arsenal. While he was the focal point at Palace, he will now face fierce competition for a starting role in a star-studded squad. Some pundits have even warned he could risk following a path similar to Jack Grealish, who struggled to replicate his Aston Villa influence after moving to Manchester City.

Nevertheless, the transfer marks a defining step in Eze’s career. He left Palace without controversy, honoring his contract until the very end, and now faces the challenge of proving himself at the highest level.
