American actor Armie Hammer has been dropped from his last remaining film in development, "Billion Dollar Spy", in the wake of sexual assault allegations.

The actor was originally set to star alongside Mads Mikkelsen in the Cold War drama back in October 2020.

The plot centered around Brad Reid (Hammer), who is a new arrival at the CIA's Moscow station during the Cold War and strikes up a friendship with Russian engineer Adolf Tolkachev (Mikkelsen), despite being warned that Tolkachev most likely working with the KGB. Tolkachev surprisingly turns over a slew of military secrets, earning him the nickname Billion Dollar Spy.

The project is based on a true story with Benjamin August writing the screenplay adaptation based on the book by David E. Hoffman.

Hammer's exit follows him leaving two other high-profile projects. He lost his role in the movie "Shotgun Wedding", where he was set to star alongside Jennifer Lopez and in Paramount+ series "The Offer", which chronicled the making of 1972 classic "The Godfather".

The actor has been accused by multiple women of rape, who came forward with attorney Gloria Allred in a press conference in March. The allegations led the Los Angeles Police Department to investigate Hammer following allegations of rape and physical abuse by a former partner. Hammer has strongly denied the accusations.

He has a number of projects that had already been shot prior to the scandal, such as "Death on the Nile" and "Next Goal Wins".
