Armenian Ambassador to Egypt Armen Sarkissian has praised Egypt’s pivotal role in regional stability, highlighting Cairo’s mediation efforts to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people.

He noted that Armenia officially recognized the State of Palestine in June 2024, reflecting its commitment to peace in the Middle East.

Sarkissian underlined the importance of high-level visits in strengthening bilateral cooperation, recalling President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s historic 2023 visit to Yerevan, which opened the door for further Egyptian delegations. He also commended Egypt’s leadership for its unwavering support of Armenia’s peace-building initiatives.

The ambassador revealed that both nations are working to boost economic cooperation, with Armenia preparing for a new session of the Egyptian-Armenian Joint Governmental Economic Committee in Cairo later this year.

Several agreements are expected to be signed, along with the launch of a fresh economic strategy aimed at unlocking opportunities in trade, tourism, healthcare, and modern technology.

According to Sarkissian, trade between Egypt and Armenia reached 190 million US dollars in 2024, but he stressed the need to match economic collaboration with the advanced level of political dialogue. He also pointed to Armenia’s readiness to participate in Egypt’s infrastructure and development projects, emphasizing the potential for mutual economic growth.

Sarkissian highlighted the historic and cultural bonds between the Egyptian and Armenian peoples, noting their long-standing friendship rooted in mutual respect.

He cited the 11th round of political consultations between the two foreign ministries, hosted in Cairo in April 2024, as an example of constructive dialogue on regional and international developments.

On humanitarian aid to Gaza, the ambassador recalled Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s announcement during his March 2024 visit to Cairo that Armenia would deliver aid to the enclave with the support of Egyptian partners. He reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to humanitarian efforts in the region.

Sarkissian also welcomed Egypt’s upcoming Grand Egyptian Museum opening, describing it as a historic event of immense cultural importance. He confirmed that Armenia will be represented at the inauguration at the highest level.

Finally, he expressed his gratitude to President el-Sisi and the Egyptian government for their warm congratulations on Armenia’s 34th Independence Day, saying it reflected the depth of the historic ties and the enduring friendship between the two nations.
