Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan confirmed on Sunday that deploying Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh would have been a way to get out of the current situation.
“The international community, and in particular the countries co-chairing the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, should support and encourage the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in the conflict zone,” Pashinyan said, according to Russia Today.
He added: ”We have not seen any concrete move to prevent a humanitarian crisis.”
Yesterday, both Armenia and Azerbaijan managed to reach a new ceasefire agreement after long rounds of talks between the two states. The ceasefire in the Nagorno – Karabakh conflict zone will take effect today.
The recently reached ceasefire agreement was pushed up by American efforts. According to CBS News, Yerevan has accepted the US call for a humanitarian ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh while the Trump administration is convincing Azerbaijan.
Assistant to the U.S. President for National Security Affairs Robert O’Brien expressed, “We spent all weekend trying to reach peace between Yerevan and Baku.
Armenia agreed to the ceasefire, Azerbaijan not yet. We are pushing them toward it,” O’Brien told CBS.
