The President of the Arab Parliament, H.E. Mr. Adel bin Abdul Rahman AlAssomi, has received a noteworthy response from the Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Mr. Martin Chungong, addressing the grave humanitarian situation in Gaza. This correspondence is a follow-up to Mr. AlAssomi's letter dated January 29, 2024, which highlighted the dire humanitarian repercussions of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

In his communication, Mr. Chungong conveyed that the IPU's Committee on Middle East Questions had reviewed the Arab Parliament’s appeals and its prior communications concerning Palestine. The Committee has echoed the Arab Parliament and the IPU's urgent call for immediate and unhindered humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip. Furthermore, it has urged IPU Member Parliaments to collaborate with their respective governments and relevant bodies to facilitate this critical access.

Moreover, the Committee has advocated for an immediate halt to the hostilities and called upon the global parliamentary community to intensify efforts to prevent further loss of life.

Mr. AlAssomi expressed his gratitude for the IPU's swift acknowledgment of the Arab Parliament's appeals for ending the ongoing conflict and the egregious acts committed by the Israeli occupying forces. He is keenly anticipating similar proactive responses from other national, international, and regional parliaments to which he has reached out, urging them to work towards an immediate ceasefire and to halt the destructive war waged by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people.

The President reaffirmed the Arab Parliament's commitment to steadfastly supporting the Palestinian cause across all platforms and at every regional and international level. The ultimate goal remains the realization of the Palestinian people's inalienable rights, including the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
