Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of Arab League, welcomed the appointment of Hussein Al-Sheikh as Palestinian Vice-President and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
Jamal Rushdi, spokesperson for Arab League Secretary-General, stated that this move represents a step within the framework of the reform initiative announced by President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) during the Arab Extraordinary Summit last March.
He expressed the Arab League’s support for the Palestinian Authority’s reform efforts, adding that such reforms strengthen the Palestinian position on the international stage and undermine pretexts used to delay the fulfillment of peace and settlement obligations.
