Arab League, UNSMIL slam attack on security checkpoint in Libya

CAIRO, Aug 24 (SEE) - The Arab League condemned on Friday the terrorist attack that targeted a security checkpoint in Libya's Zliten city, east of Tripoli, Spokesman for the Arab League secretary general Mahmoud Afifi said.

Afifi convoyed the condolences of Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit to the victims' families.

He also stressed the Arab League's support and full solidarity with the Libyan State at all levels in order to combat terrorism and do whatever is required to maintain security and stability across the country.

In the same context, the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) slammed the terror attack, saying "the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Libya, Ghassan Salame, expresses his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of the State of Libya and wishes the injured a speedy and full recovery."

Earlier on Thursday, Daesh terrorist group attacked a security checkpoint in Zliten, western Libya, leaving at least four security personnel and seven others wounded.
