Arab League Chief, Turkish FM Hold Talks in Cairo

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of  Arab League, met on Sunday, with Hakan Fidan, Turkish Foreign Minister (FM), as part of his visit to Egypt.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that the meeting witnessed an in-depth discussion on the regional situation in light of the severe risks posed by the current Israeli escalation. They also discussed ways to enhance relations between the Arab League and Turkey in political, economic, and other areas in the upcoming period.

The spokesperson added that the meeting included an exchange of views on developments regarding several important issues on the regional and international stages, foremost among them being the Palestinian cause in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. He explained that the Secretary-General emphasized the necessity for the international community to provide protection for the Palestinian people, especially the residents of Gaza who are continuously subjected to massacres by Israeli forces, stressing the need for an immediate ceasefire, urgent aid delivery, and the initiation of a reliable process leading to the implementation of the two-state solution.

The Secretary-General warned of the region's countries being dragged into a cycle of escalation and expressed his appreciation for Turkey's principled and decisive positions in supporting the Palestinian cause in international forums.

The parties also discussed the latest developments in Syria, Libya, and Sudan.
