An Arab intellectual conference titled “The Image of Arabs and the Dialogue of Cultures: Future Visions” opened Thursday at the headquarters of the Arab League, bringing together thinkers, academics, researchers and representatives of civil society organizations, along with members of the media.
The conference was organized by the Arab League’s General Secretariat through the Social Affairs Sector and the Civil Society Organizations Department, and focused on cultural and intellectual issues related to how Arabs are perceived globally and the challenges facing Arab cultural discourse amid rapid international changes.
During the discussions, former Egyptian Minister of Culture Abdel Wahed El-Nabawi stressed the importance of Arab solidarity in adopting a unified media strategy to improve the image of Arabs in the West and confront narratives that distort it.
Participants also highlighted the role of cultural dialogue in fostering mutual understanding among peoples, building bridges between civilizations and countering negative stereotypes. Sessions addressed cultural diplomacy as a key tool for strengthening Arab presence on the global stage, showcasing Arab intellectual and civilizational contributions, and developing a contemporary cultural discourse rooted in tolerance, pluralism and mutual respect.
The conference also underscored the vital role of civil society and media in promoting peace and constructive intercultural engagement.
