The new administration in Syria announced today, Monday, the appointment of Maysaa Sabreen as Governor of the Central Bank of Syria.
Sabreen is the first woman to hold this high position in the history of the Syrian financial institution that extends over 70 years, replacing Muhammad Issam Hazima, who was appointed Governor of the Central Bank by ousted President Bashar al-Assad in 2021.
Sabreen previously held the position of First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, since October 2018, and has more than 15 years of professional experience in the financial and banking field.
She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Damascus Stock Exchange, representing the Central Bank, before assuming her new position.
