Apple plans to increase production in India more than five-fold over the next five years, news agency PTI reported, citing government officials.
The company's production value exceeded $7 billion in India during the last fiscal year, and it aims for the number to reach $40 billion, officials told the agency.
This comes at a time when Apple is manufacturing iPhones in India, and has plans to start manufacturing AirPods next year.
Apple, headquartered in Cupertino, sold the first “iPhone 15” device it made in India this month during the phone’s global release day.
