On Thursday, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Essa received Leslie Reed, the director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) mission for Egypt to examine the means of mutual cooperation.
Essa initiated the meeting by welcoming Reed and her delegation, asserting that useful cooperation between the ministry and USAID. He also praised the efforts of the agency in Egypt for their developmental projects in the fields of tourism, antiquities protection, heritage, and upgrading tourism and historical sites.
The Minister revealed the targets of the new national strategy for tourism development, including reaching from 25% to 30% annual increase in the number of tourists.
On her side, Reed reviewed the activities of the agency in Egypt, including their efforts in the field of tourism and archaeology. It also praised the role of Egypt in developing all historical sites and the surrounding areas.
Both officials discussed the current projects of the agency in the sector of tourism such as the latest workshops in different historical sites in Cairo, and Luxor.
The meeting also examined the convention on climate change, alongside its aftermath on heritage and archaeological sites, moreover, they discussed biodiversity and the means of protection of the coral reefs in the Red Sea.
