The Permanent Committee of Islamic and Coptic Antiquities has approved, over its last meeting, the project of restoration and re-employment the palace of Sultan Hussein Kamel.
The palace was known as Sultana Malak (wife of the late Sultan) Palace, in Heliopolis District, north east of Cairo.
Dr. Osama Talaat, Head of the Islamic, Coptic and Jewish Antiquities Sector, explained that the project will be implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology within the Egyptian Telecom Company's social responsibility program.
The project aims to re-employ the palace to become a center for the development of creativity and youth entrepreneurship in addition to being part of the Panorama Baron Empain's palace facing it.
This is an important project to show the cultural features of the original Heliopolis area.
Dr. Talaat stated that the restoration work will include the meticulous architectural restoration of the building and all the drawings and decorations of the new Islamic style that characterized the architecture of that period.
It is worth noting that the palace is located in the Heliopolis District facing the palace of Baron Empain, and it was established during the years when Hussein Kamel was a prince before ascending the throne.
The palace was then attributed to Sultana Malak, who was his second wife of Circassian origin; he married her in 1886 AD.
It was designed by the French architect Alexandre Marcel in 1908. It is considered one of the most important aspects of the civilization of Heliopolis.
