The Minister of Antiquities and the French Ambassador inaugurate an exhibition of French excavations in Egypt at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.

Minister of Antiquities Dr. Khaled Al-Anani and French Ambassador to Cairo Stephen Romate inaugurated an exhibition of French excavations in Egypt at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir on Wednesday.

The exhibition runs from December 18, 2019, to February 18, 2020.

The opening was organized by the Ministry of Antiquities, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the French Institute of Oriental Archeology (Ifao), under the title of “French Excavations in Egypt: Research, Cooperation, and Innovation.”

The exhibition is being held within the activities of the Egyptian French cultural year 2019. It’s expected that a selection of distinct artifacts discovered by French archaeological missions working in Egypt will be displayed.

The exhibition paints a current panoramic picture of French archaeological activity in Egypt, the institutions that support it and the archaeological excavations carried out by these institutions in different regions of the country.

The exhibition also reflects the richness and progress of archaeological cooperation between the two countries and its tangible results.

France is one of Egypt's most important partners in the field of archaeological work by establishing three permanent research centers in Egypt: the French Scientific Institute for Oriental Archeology IFAO, which will soon celebrate the 140th anniversary of its founding, the French-Egyptian Center for the Study of the Karnak Temple CFEETK and the Center for Alexandrian Studies CEAlex, in addition to about fifty Excavation mission annually under the umbrella and in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities.

The exhibition presents about one hundred pieces of great scientific and museum significance, dating back to prehistoric times until the medieval period. Some of the pieces are exceptional and unparalleled in any museum in the world.
