Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled Anani asserted that no money will be collected from tour operators for a planned tourism and antiquities fund without a law issued by the parliament.

This came during a joint meeting of the parliamentary committees of culture, media, tourism and planning and budget to discuss a draft law raised by the government to form the fund.

Anani noted that the establishment of this integrated fund aims at saving the tourism sector. The idea of its formation is to bring together the Nubia antiquities fund, the fund for financing archaeological and museum projects and the tourism fund under a single overarching fund that will financially support tourism promotion and development activities and services and efforts to preserve antiquities and upgrade archaeological sites, he added.

The minister stressed the importance of launching a new campaign for promoting Egyptian tourism to save this strategic industry.
