Aliou Cissé officially announced his departure from his role as head coach of the Libya national football team on Wednesday via his personal Instagram account.

Cissé reflected on his tenure, saying, “March was an exceptional month for me, as it marked my last gathering as Libya’s coach.

This adventure has been extremely rewarding both professionally and personally, and I could not leave without addressing you from the heart.”

Addressing the coaching staff and players, he added, “Despite the challenges we faced, I am proud of the work we accomplished together and the results we achieved. I have great faith in this team, and I have no doubt you will continue to push it forward.”

Cissé also expressed gratitude to the Libyan fans: “I want to thank you for the warm welcome, your passion, and your unwavering support. I will never forget you. I know the Mediterranean Knights will always be able to count on you, and I wish you all the best in the future.”

Aliou Cissé had taken charge of the Libyan national team in March 2025, succeeding Nasser Al-Hadiri, and chose to step down despite having a contract extending until June 2027.
