Algeria earned a comfortable 2-0 victory over Kenya as they opened their Africa Cup of Nations finals campaign with a convincing display of organized attacking skills.

Baghdad Bounedjah opened the scoring with a 34th minute penalty, while captain Ryad Mehrez further enforced the lead minutes before the second half.

Midfielder Dennis Odhiambo caused a rather clumsy tackle on Youcef Atal which led to a penalty kick. Atala  made a run down the right wing before penetrating himself through the defense and forcing the Kenyan to collide with him.

Mahrez scored the second goal nine minutes later as he found his way unmarked into the penalty area to place a shot which was deflected by Kenya's defender into goal.

The second half saw Algeria further enforce their attacking strategy, but without finding the rhythm to score. Kenya’s only promising attack came with only six minutes remaining when Ayub Timbe’s sprinted through the right wing setting  up a chance for Michael Olunga, but the chance was halted by the Algerian defence.
