Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad have announced the dismissal of French coach Laurent Blanc following the team’s 2-0 defeat to rivals Al Nassr, ending a tenure that lasted around 14 months.

In an official statement released early Sunday on X, the club confirmed it had parted ways with Blanc and his backroom staff, thanking them for their service.

Assistant coach Hassan Khalifa has been appointed caretaker manager, supported by Iván Carrasco, head coach of the U21 team, until a permanent replacement is named.

Blanc guided Al Ittihad to a historic double last season, winning both the Saudi Pro League and the King’s Cup.

However, the new campaign has seen a decline in form. The team lost in the Saudi Super Cup semi-final, were beaten in their AFC Champions League elite opener, and most recently fell to Al Nassr in the domestic league.
