The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, issued a strong condemnation Friday of what he described as “ongoing aggression by the occupying entity against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” warning that continued attacks and reckless actions threaten to ignite a full-scale regional war.
In a statement posted on his official social media accounts, the Grand Imam criticized the “systematic attacks” by what he called a “usurping aggressor,” stressing that such escalation would only serve the interests of arms dealers and profiteers of bloodshed.
He further denounced the international community’s silence, calling it “complicity in the crime” and a failure that endangers global security. “War cannot create peace,” the Grand Imam wrote, urging urgent international action to prevent further deterioration in the region.
Al-Azhar is the Muslim world’s leading religious institution, and its statements are widely followed across the Islamic world.
