Al Ahly have swiftly progressed to the Egyptian Cup semi-finals following a 2-1 victory over second-pision side Abu Qir Fertilizers.
Ahly vs Abu Qire Match Report
Abu Qir had a remarkable run in the Egypt Cup, knocking out top tier teams Entag and Haras El-Hodood to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.
Despite getting sent out of the cup by Al Ahly on Saturday, Abu Qir defied the odds again as they managed to give the Egyptians a hard time throughout the 90 minutes, even though they had a player sent off early on.
It didn’t take Pitso Mosimane’s side long to score their first as Walid Soliman fired his side in the lead after just 15 minutes.
Ten minutes later, legend Soliman came back to double Al Ahly’s lead as Ibrahim Reio was sent off after receiving two yellow cards inside three minutes.
Guinean forward Cirva Lah made use of Hany El-Sayed’s low cross to score a phenomenal goal for his club in the 39th minute.
Al Ahly had a couple of chances to score at least two more goals through Aliou Badji and Mohamed Magdy Afsha, but Abu Qir’s goalkeeper Mohamed Talaat produced a historic performance to keep the score at 2-1.
The Reds will now face Ittihad of Alexandria in the semi-finals of the Egypt Cup on December 1, with the final being played four days later.
However, before that, Al Ahly will face arch-rivals Zamalek in the CAF Champions League final on November 27.
