Egyptian actor Ahmed Salah Hosny has signed on to star in the film "Oscar".
The film hails from director Hesham El-Rashidy and scriptwriters Mustafa Askar and Hamed Al-Sharab.
"Oscar" marks his first lead role in a film as well as his comeback to the big screen after four years of absence.
He made his last onscreen appearance in the 2019 film “Al Mamar” (The Passage), which made a comeback for war films in the Egyptian cinema after an absence of 20 years or more.
The film’s budget is the largest in the history of Egypt’s cinema- EGP100 million, according to a report by Saudi-owned news channel Al Arabiya.
"Al Mamar" revenues have reached over EGP 80 million at the box office.
The film was written and directed by Sherif Arafa and featured an ensemble cast with the likes of Ahmed Ezz, Hend Sabry, Mohamed Farag, Asma Abulyazeid, Eyad Nassar, and more.
Its theme song was written by Amir Teima and composed by legendary musician Omar Khairat.
"Al Mamar" revolves around the Egyptian Thunderbolt Forces during the war of attrition, headed by the leader of the 39th group, martyr Ibrahim Rifai.
The film details the time of the 1967 war until the beginning of the war of attrition.
Hosny, born on 11 July 1979, started as a soccer player in the Al Ahly club. In 2008, he retired from soccer and started composing music for singers like Mohamed Hamaqy and Amr Dia.
In 2012, he made his acting debut in the TV series "Sharbat Loaz".
