"Ahlan Ramadan" exhibitions launched on Sunday at the Cairo International Conference Center with the aim of providing various food commodities at reduced prices, as 180 of the largest companies producing food commodities will participate in big discounts.

Held until April 12, pavilions of major commercial chains, public and consumer outlets as well branches of the "Gam'eyeti" project will offer products at reduced prices ranging from 15 to 35% discounts, especially food commodities and Ramadan products such as "Yamish"and  other basic commodities.

About 1,300 outlets for consumer complexes and affiliated companies, as well as 1,000 branches of the "Gam'eyeti" project outlets will participate in the Ahlan Ramadan discounts.

The Ministry of Supply will offer frozen chicken in consumer complexes at EGP 30 per kilo, Brazilian frozen meat at EGP 65 per kilo, and Sudanese meat at EGP 85.

The ministry will provide these outlets with all food commodities, as well as ration goods to be disbursed by card holders with the value of the subsidy allocated to each citizen.

Also, the prices of dates will start from EGP 9-17 per kilo, a 700-gram half dry dates at EGP 20, while Qamar al-Din prices will start from EGP 23, and Egyptian raisins at EGP 20-24. Also, small ramadan bags will be offered at EGP 50.

A research by the Cairo Chamber of Commerce revealed that Ramadan is a period when consumer spending and economic indicators double-clutch despite financial determinants. In Ramadan, Egyptian households’ spending on food reach approximately EGP 1.5 billion daily.

Consequently, it is quite common to observe special offers on a variety of commodities to attract more consumers and expand market shares during the holy month.

Hypermarkets usually offer Ramadan bags, in an attempt to attract the largest number of consumers during the month, with the opportunity of choosing the items included. Generally, Hypermarkets offer competitive prices all year, especially in Ramadan, since their marketing strategy is based upon mass marketing and high sales.
