A few hours ago, All Elite Wrestling concluded the events of its final Pay-Per-View for the year, Full Gear, with the coronation of a new world champion. The event was the best PPV conducted by the promotion as it followed an organized time sequence, a well-booked and presented card, and gave a very good representation of the promotion’s stars.
The event started with a well-presented Zero Hour event with a funny, and entertaining contest between Best Friends, Danhausen, & Rocky Romero, and The Factory.
The match contained some eye catchy spots and in-ring action by both teams. However, the highlight of this match was the return of the Evilhausen gimmick which is a violent and dark style of Danhausen. He used to present this character during his run with Ring of Honor (ROH).
Next came the second round of the AEW Eliminator Tournament for a world title shot at AEW Dynamite: Winter Is Coming. The second round was between Ricky Starks and Brian Cage.
The match was fine and has a good balance between Starks and Cage, however, Starks could do a better performance.
This Wednesday, the final of the tournament will take place between Starks and Ethan Page.
The final match of the Zero Hour was a dream match of Eddi Kingston to face one of the faces that inspired him in the field of pro wrestling who is Jun Akiyama. The Japanese legend had a match in the AEW Rampage’s Full Gear Go Home. He teamed up with Konosuke Takeshita against Kingston and Ortiz.
The match ended for Japan’s stars team. After that Kingston called Akiyama for a match in Full Gear.
The match was an interesting and enjoyable technical-based contest, and after the match, Kingston went so emotional about having one of his dreams come true.
Overall, the Zero Hour was a good warming up for the heavy main show card, and the duration of each match was nicely set.
Moving to the main show, it kicked off with the Steel Cage match between Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus
During the match, Jungle Boy revealed a truly different face of him as he turned to be a stronger, harder, and more violent competitor inside the ring. He delivered tough movements and bold spots.
There was a very good representation of Jungle Boy’s rage, cruelty, and Luchasaurus's strength.
Also, there was a scene as a tribute to The Undertaker-Lesnar famous exchanged laughs.
This match was described as one of the best Steel Cage matches of this year.
It is expected that the feud between Jungle Boy and his old friend will be moved directly to his mentor, Christian Cage.
No hints were made regarding a third wrapper match between the former AEW World Tag Team champions. But, the injury of Christian Cage may postpone the highly anticipated match between the mentor and the student, and give more time for a third match between the former partners.
After the steel cage match, the fans braced themselves to enjoy the highly anticipated return of The Elite after they were stripped of the World Trios titles due to the brawls in backstage with CM Punk and Ace Steel.
The Elite had another shot of the titles, against the current champions Death Triangle.
There is no doubt that Lucha Brothers and the Young Bucks are among the best tag teams in the world, and they had a long experience of competing together. The high-flying technique and the super athletic style of the four members gave the audience a beautiful scene of pro wrestling and athleticism, alongside the eye catchy style of Kenny Omega and Pac.
The Elite used a brand new theme song which is “Carry on Wayward Son” by Kansas band. The band reacted to the usage of the song by The Elite on Twitter with thanking the AEW and The Elite.
The ending of the match was somehow shocking as the majority of people predicted The Elite’s victory, however, Rey Fenix pinned Omega after hitting him with a hammer behind the back of the referee.
During the match, the fans warmly chanted for The Elite and insulted CM Punk due to his statement and brawls after the All Out event last September.
After the match, AEW President Tony Khan announced that the match was part of Best of the 7 match. Another six rounds will take place between both teams and the winner will be the team that won the most number of falls.
Next came the TBS title match. Although the story of the feud was very disappointing, Jade Cargill and Nayla Rose delivered a fine match. Cargill managed to retain her title.
The highlight of this match lied in Vickie Guerrero's tribute to her late husband Eddie, and Cargill’s gear that was inspired by Cheetara.
Moving to the Fatal 4-Way Match for the ROH World title between Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, Claudio Castagnoli, and Bryan Danielson. The presence of the match in AEW PPV was somehow strange as ROH will organize a PPV in the first week of the next month!
Although every two members originally belong to the same faction (Jericho & Guevara are members of The Jericho Appreciation Society, while Castagnoli & Danielson belong to Blackpool Combat Club), the four members presented an impressive in-ring epic. The storytelling between Guevara and Jericho was attractive and made the fans to be more on the side of the rising athlete who wants to hold a world title.
Guevara was the shining star of this match and he was a tough competitor for his mentor, Jericho.
The match was named by the fans as the best-represented Fatal 4-Way match of this year. It was also the second-longest match in the night after the main event.
Moving to the in-ring return of Saraya, the match was anxious for the majority of fans as they were concerned over Saraya's injury that forced her to end her career five years ago.
The real star of this match was Britt Baker as she showed how much she is the real revolution of AEW’s women’s division, and how she moderated the contest in exchanging power with Saraya. She made good selling, and she did her best to be a safe in-ring co-worker with Saraya.
One of the catchiest scenes is Baker’s stomp as she executed it on the back, instead of the head to not make any pressure on Saraya’s neck.
Although the match’s tempo was somehow slow due to Saraya’s condition, it was good and strong.
Once again Baker approved that she is the heart and the soul of this division.
After that came the Triple Threat match between Wardlow, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Samoa Joe for the TNT title. Since Wardlow captured the title, he didn’t represent any good stories, therefore, the betrayal of Joe for Wardlow and the interference of Hobbs gave more colors to the colorless Wardlow TNT period.
The booking of the match was good, and each star showed his physical powers well, in addition, Wardlow showed good athletic moves.
This feud will be hotter as Joe managed to win the title and became a two-belt guy as he is the ROH World Television champion.
After that came Tag Team action between Darby Allin & Sting and Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarret. Although the arrival of Jarret was criticized, the spot between JJ and Sting led the fans to chant “TNA..TNA..TNA.”
Making the match as a disqualification one gave more space for the four stars to make cool spots such as the famous JJ’s guitar spot, and reckless Sting’s jump.
However, the quality of the match is still poorer than the quality represented in the PPV.
Moving to the Interim AEW Women’s World title match between the champion Toni Storm and the rising star of the division Jamie Hayter. Hayter was loudly welcomed by the fans in the arena more than Storm.
The match was very slow in the beginning, however, it turned out to be stronger after a few minutes. In addition, the interference of Rebel and Baker, and the exchanged moves between Hayter as she made Storm’s signature move.
The coronation of Hayter was demanded by the fans as she showed that she deserve to be the face of this division.
After that came the Co-Main event which is the third part of The Acclaimed vs. Swerve In Our Glory trilogy for AEW World Tag Team titles.
This match was good in terms of storytelling, and execution, however, it could be the weakest one among the three matches.
It also witnessed the beginning of the long-awaited feud between Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee.
Finally came the highly anticipated main event for the AEW World title between Jon Moxley and MJF.
The match was a true epic, as the chants were for MJF, calling him the new champ. In addition, MJF showed a strong and violent performance, however, he also showed part of his devilish-villain character.
There were some good moves such as the Piledriver, the tombstone, and others.
The ending of the match was shocking as MJF won after William Regal helped him and betrayed Moxley.
After his victory, MJF made some shots against CM Punk.
Overall, the event was one of the best PPV shows by US promotions of 2022, and the best for AEW.
There are some matches announced for the upcoming AEW Dynamite episode on Thanksgiving eve such as a match between Jericho and Ishii for ROH World title, the second round of AEW World Trios titles between The Elite, and Death Triangle.
