Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Abu Mazen, thanked Egypt on Saturday for its sponsorship of Palestinian reconciliation and for its contribution to converging views.
The Palestinian Presidency announced that Abbas had received a written letter from the head of the political bureau of Hamas Ismail Haniyeh, according to an official statement released Saturday.
“The Secretary of the Central Committee of the Fatah Movement, Jibril Rajoub, handed Hamas letter to Abbas,” the statement read.
The statement added that “After reading the letter, the president gave his directives to Rajoub to inform Hamas of his welcome to the message regarding ending the pision, building partnership and achieving national unity through democratic elections with full proportional and representation and elections of legislative, presidential and national councils, respectively.”
Abu Mazen reaffirmed Fatah's commitment to the path of building partnership and national unity.
Moreover, he hailed efforts exerted by many countries, most notably Egypt, Russia and Jordan for their contributions to conclude the reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas.
