Atalanta fans received a special reception from the moment it returned to Italy, after winning the European League title for the first time in its history, at the expense of the German team Bayer Leverkusen, yesterday, Wednesday.
The Atalanta team succeeded in winning the European League title, after defeating the German team Bayer Leverkusen, 3-0, in the match that brought them together at the Aviva Stadium, in Dublin, the capital of Ireland.
The goals of the match were scored by Nigerian star Ademola Lookman, with a hat-trick in the 12th, 26th, and 75th minutes, respectively, for Atalanta.
Atalanta succeeded in winning its first title after 61 years when it won the Italian Cup in 1963 and reconciled with its fans who expressed their anger after losing the local cup to Juventus.
According to Opta, the global network specializing in football statistics and figures, Ademola Lookman has become the second player to score a hat-trick in the final of a major European competition for an Italian team, after Pierino Prati in Milan against Ajax in the 1969 European Cup.
He also became the first African player in history to score a hat-trick in a continental final in the European Championships, leading his club to glory by winning the European League title.
