At least eight people have died and 31 others remain missing following severe flooding triggered by heavy rainfall across the Himalayan plains between Nepal and China.
The extreme weather, which struck the mountainous region over the weekend, has caused widespread devastation and prompted large-scale rescue efforts on both sides of the border.
According to local officials in Nepal, rescue teams have recovered eight bodies, while 20 individuals, including six Chinese nationals are still unaccounted for. On the Chinese side, authorities have confirmed that 11 people are missing.
Emergency responders have successfully rescued 57 people so far, but challenging terrain and ongoing rain are complicating search operations. The affected areas lie in remote, high-altitude regions that are particularly vulnerable to landslides and flash floods during the monsoon season.
Both Chinese and Nepali authorities have mobilized joint rescue units and are deploying helicopters, drones, and specialized teams in a race against time to locate the missing.
