8 Dead, 15 Injured in Fire at China Vegetable Market

A fire broke out at a vegetable market in the Hebei province of northern China on Saturday, resulting in eight fatalities and 15 injuries, as reported by China Central Television (CCTV).

The fire erupted in the city of Zhangjiakou at approximately 8:40 AM, and was extinguished an hour later.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, but no official findings have been announced yet.

Videos circulating on the Chinese social media platform Weibo show massive clouds of black smoke and large flames rising above the market in the Qiaoxi district.

The market where the fire occurred, known as the Li Guang Vegetable Market, opened in 2011 and sells a variety of goods ranging from fresh produce and seafood to electronics.
