Six people were killed and several others injured today, Thursday, as a result of an explosion and subsequent fire onboard a fishing boat off the coast of the city of Naga in Cebu province, Philippines.
Officials from the Philippine Coast Guard, as reported by ABC News, stated that the injured were transported to a hospital for treatment, with one individual in critical condition.
They suspect that the boat experienced engine trouble before the explosion and subsequent fire broke out.
The Philippines, known for its rich marine biodiversity and vibrant fishing industry, often witnesses such incidents due to the reliance of many communities on fishing as a primary source of livelihood.
Naga, situated in the scenic Cebu province, is no exception. Its coastal areas are frequented by fishermen who venture out into the waters in search of a bountiful catch.
