A devastating landslide has resulted in the deaths of five individuals in a mountainous region of central China, as reported by an official media outlet.

The incident occurred amidst widespread weather alerts across various parts of the country due to severe weather conditions.

The state-run CCTV reported that heavy rains triggered fatal landslides in a village near Huaihua town, located approximately 1,500 kilometers southwest of Beijing.

The disaster struck early Monday morning, causing the collapse of four homes and leaving five people dead. Search operations are currently underway to locate three missing individuals.

China has been experiencing extreme weather and unusually high temperatures in recent months, conditions that scientists attribute to climate change.

Several red alerts for heavy rainfall were issued on Friday, particularly in Hebei province, with Wuhan as its capital, and Anhui province in the east.

The relentless rains have also caused significant flooding, especially in Guangdong province in the south, an area symbolic of China’s industrial strength.

Official reports released on Friday confirmed that at least 38 people have died this week due to the severe weather conditions.
