42.7% increase in revenues of museums

Today, Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics issued a press release on the occasion of International Museums Day Celebrated on May 18 every year , Such day was set by the International Council of Museums “ICOM” at its meeting in 1977, it aims to increase awareness of importance of museums in developing societies as the people is core memory, it provide an opportunity for museum professionals to communicate with public. Egyptian Museum is in the tenth place among 60 museums around the world, it was established in 1902, and it includes more than 150 thousand artifacts, and it has more than 100 exhibition rooms, Louvre Museum in Paris, France, comes in first place, while in the second place came Metropolitan Museum in New York City, USA, Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, came in third place. This year's 2023 celebration theme is '' Museums, Sustainability and Well-being.''.

The most important indicators are as follows:

- Total revenues of museums reached 155.4 million pounds in 2021, compared to 108.9 million pounds in 2020, an increase by 42.7%.

- Number of museum visitors reached 322.5 thousand visitors in 2021, compared to 304.5 thousand visitors in 2020, an increase by 5.9%.

- Total number of museums that practiced in activity reached 78 museums, including (70 museums of art and history, 8 natural, pure and applied sciences) in 2021.

- Cairo governorate museums occupied the largest number of total museums, reaching 25 museums, followed by Alexandria 14 museums, and Giza governorates 10 museums.
