Heavy rains and subsequent flooding have claimed the lives of at least 28 people in the Indian state of Gujarat over the past three days.
Local government officials reported that the relentless downpours have caused rivers to overflow, leading to widespread evacuations.
More than 30,000 people have been displaced as the state braces for further heavy rainfall, as predicted by the meteorological department.
The casualties in Gujarat include 13 people who drowned, while others lost their lives due to house collapses or trees falling on them.
According to local reports, the total death toll across the state could be as high as 35.
Rescue teams, including disaster management units and military personnel, have been deployed to carry out relief operations, rescuing nearly 1,856 people so far.
Vadodara, one of the hardest-hit cities, witnessed rescue operations using rubber boats and makeshift rafts, as seen in images and videos shared by disaster management officials.
