A tragic maritime accident off South Korea’s southern coast has left four people dead and six others missing after a fishing boat capsized near the city of Yeosu in South Jeolla Province.
According to the South Korean Coast Guard, authorities received a distress call about the sinking vessel near an island off the southern coast.
The boat had 14 crew members on board, including eight South Koreans and six foreign workers from Vietnam and Indonesia.
Rescue teams successfully saved eight individuals, but four of them—all South Korean nationals—were later pronounced dead.
Search efforts continue for the six missing crew members, with patrol ships and aircraft deployed to assist in the operation.
South Korea’s Acting President Choi Sang-mook has ordered all available resources to be mobilized for the rescue mission.
