Four activists were detained after hurling custard and apple crumble at the display case housing the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London, prompting a temporary closure of the Jewel House.
The civil resistance group Take Back Power claimed responsibility and posted footage online. The organization said the stunt was intended to highlight what it calls the erosion of British democracy and to push for the creation of a permanent “House of the People” with authority to tax extreme wealth.
Police arrested the protesters on suspicion of criminal damage. Historic Royal Palaces, the charity responsible for the site, confirmed that the Crown Jewels were not harmed.
The incident is the group's second high-profile protest in recent days, following a manure dump at The Ritz earlier in the week.
The Crown Jewels, adorned with thousands of diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, rubies and pearls, remain one of Britain’s most culturally and historically significant treasures and a major draw for visitors.
