Nabil Abed Al-Thaqafi Head of the Subsistence and Nutrition Committee, and member of the Board of Directors of the Mekka Chamber said that the number of meals provided to the 1.8 million pilgrims reached more than 32 million meals during this year’s Hajj season in the Holy Sites.

Al-Thaqafi added that the number of meals for one pilgrim is 18 during his stay in Al-Mashaer from the 8th to the 13th of Dhul-Hijjah (breakfast, lunch, dinner), and the average cost of these meals is estimated at 500 riyals for the economic category, while the cost of meals for one pilgrim in the higher category package starts from 500 riyals up to 2000 riyals.

He explained that the number of kitchens of establishments, companies and institutions working in qualified food from the Holy City Secretariat during the Hajj season is 327 kitchens, with a capacity of more than 5 million pilgrims for one meal in the Holy Sites.

He pointed to the use of cooked, frozen and sterilized meals, explaining that facilities that work in nutrition have major challenges, especially in logistical services, given the severe crowding, increasing pedestrian traffic, and the lack of entry of vehicles into sites in specific areas.
