Three people were killed and eight others were injured in a knife attack in Solingen, Germany, authorities announced on Friday.
The attack took place during a festival in the city center. Five of the injured are in a critical condition, according to German reports.
On Saturday, police said they are still searching for the attacker, with national security forces deployed to the scene.
The man reportedly stabbed passers-by randomly during the major city's celebration.
Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Saturday that the attacker must be caught quickly and punished to fullest extent of the law.
Interior minister Nancy Faeser expressed her condolences, asserting that the authorities are "doing everything they can to catch the perpetrator and determine the background of the attack".
