At least 23 civilians were killed on Monday in an airstrike targeting a remote border region of Pakistan, according to police and security sources.
The strike comes amid a surge in violence across the area.
A senior police officer in the region said four houses were destroyed in the attack, though he declined to reveal the identity of those responsible for the airstrike.
An additional security officer in Peshawar confirmed the death toll and noted that the border region hosts numerous hideouts used by the Pakistani Taliban.
The civilian casualties are expected to heighten tensions and raise questions over accountability in the ongoing conflict.
